Electric Storm A Raven Investigations Novel Volume 1 Stacey Brutger 9781475109078 Books

The premise of the book seemed good so I bought it but it was really hard to get through. It didn't hold my interest and there was way to much going on in the head of the heroine. I hate books where most the page is the person thinking instead of doing. Then the silly obsessive I have to have this person sexually or I will die stuff is so boring. To me it just means the person didn't plan a thorough story so has to throw all that in to add pages because it seldom adds to the plot of the story. Realize I talking about when every few pages it mentioned again and again. Like you didn't get it the first fifty times.

Electric Storm A Raven Investigations Novel Volume 1 Stacey Brutger 9781475109078 Books Reviews

I feel like the world and pack dynamics needed more details. You have no idea what is common knowledge and what is secret or how the finer points of a pack and mating work. Also, I feel like the author has the main character take on too much at once and then gives her what ends up being a solution that mostly works itself out instead of doimg much work just to get them out of the way. Even if you read between the lines, you still get confused and that doesn't go away. That being said, the story itself is really good if you can get past the confusing parts.
So I just finished reading Electric Storm. Before I started writing this review, I read over a few of the other reviews. They were pretty on point. A great deal of detail is not explained to you and it is difficult to follow along on certain conversations and facts. I feel that a prologue would have been an excellent devise to show Raven escaping the Lab and getting everyone out. More explanation on why Dominic and the others are in her house for a week - and what exactly her job is. Overall, I like Raven as a character. The story line was interesting and I am looking forward to seeing how her pack develops in Electric Moon.
So it's been a couple of weeks since I read this one but I have to say I am still thinking about it. I've even become a slight bookish stalker on Stacey Brutger's web page. I really need book 2, like yesterday! Obsessed I tell you, obsessed!!

This book kicked ass. It was unique and had everything I love about Para/Urban Fantasy. Raven reminded me of the early days of Anita Blake and from me that's a compliment 'cuz I love the early Anita Blake books. Raven is the kind of chick I would so want for my BFF. She is strong without being a bitch. Independent, powerful and willing to do what she must to protect the ones that have come into her life. She's got several love interests and while romance is not the key element of the book, the chemistry between her and these men rock!!

Raven is a kick ass heroine. She also has quite the menagerie of power going on. I know that this drives some people crazy but for this book it really works. Raven starts out very closed off from anyone, she won't let anyone touch her and emotionally she is very shut down. For very good reason, but still...

These men are deliciously awesome. They all have distinct personalities and I never felt like I was reading about the same guy over and over. I really hope that she ends up with all of them. I know, I know, that's a lot of men for one woman, but Raven can totally handle it.

There is the very sweet and damaged, Taggert, who also happens to be a were-wolf. Jackson, who is also a were-wolf and in the beginning I wasn't sure what I thought about him but by the end I loved him. Durrant, is a were-tiger, and I am excited to see where the relationship goes. Last, but certainly, not least is Ryland, the very deliciously dark and mysterious vampire.

The writing and world building were really awesome. Stacey Brutger is a writer to watch and I will definitely be reading anything else that she writes.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves a really good Paranormal/Urban Fantasy book.

If you haven't read Electric Storm, do, go buy it. It's good, really good.

There are parts of this i loved and so many parts that left me confused. I just started reading Stacey Brutger's books this week. She has a gift w capturing you into a story at the onset. You can't help but get pulled in.

Raven is a woman with a troubled past and a gift that she tries to hide from others to protect them and herself....allegedly. i say allegedly because every darn person she encountered ended up knowing the secret so wth. Too many people where coming in and out of this story and some of the explanations of mating, alphas and pack bonds were a bit confusing to me.

What i did like about Raven was she isn't selfish, she cared abt those less powerful than her and tried to protect them even at a cost yo herself. It just seemed that she was like a one woman circus, collecting all types of men to her the Raven show. This was not a bad book by any means but it just needed some tweaking.
I love the Raven Investigations storyline and the characters in Electric Storm, but unfortunately the delivery--especially in the first 20 percent of the book-- lost me in a few places with vague segues from one topic to another, or with speakers not identified clearly (confusing when there were more than two speakers). I felt disconnected at times between the situation and the character's dialog (some responses seemed more nonsensical guessing than logical conclusions). I have to say, after a rough start, the story started to pull together and the writer hit stride, delivering a good story and creating a great storyline. I'm curious about further books in the series, but not sure if I'll continue due to the pricing(over my usual budget amount) and the segue issues I experienced in this read. I may try another if the books go on sale at some point.
