Dewey is a great character with a lot of brains and a lot of heart, and the whole cast of characters in this book come to life in one hilarious episode after another. Lorri Horn writes with a sharp wit and great comic timing. Many of the scenarios border on the absurd, yet in the context of this story, seem completely ordinary and natural. I still can't figure out how Dewey's parents never realize that Dewey's assistant Clara is constantly and obsessively baking cookies in the attic throughout the book. Besides all of the humor (some of it quite gross) there is a strong emotional current running through the book building up to the moving conclusion to Dewey's biggest case. Parents and kids alike will love this funny and touching book. An impressive debut novel from Lorri Horn.

An enjoyable read for all ages! Plus it has great problem solving ideas easy to accomplish applying common sense. It's humorous and well-written, as well as realistic and relatable. Makes one think of one's own family problems and thoughtful ways of resolving them with humor, kindness, and warmth.
I am a nine year old girl and I love this book so much because the kids secretly cure the parents instead of the parents curing the kids. Also, this book is perfect for reading by yourself, for read alouds, and books clubs.
As a grandmother of an 11 year old, I try to read books that I can recommend to my grandson. Wow.......this is a 5 star book that is exceptionally clever, creative, constructive and, as a bonus, shines with humor. There is always a solution and the hero, Dewey Fairchild, finds it with imagination, kindness and problem solving skills. And how refreshing......there is no violence! I would love to see this book along with other Dewey Fairchild adventures in a television series.
